Cat earns herself Guinness World Record for loudest purr

That kitty's got a roaring purr...

As much as we are all for a good, comforting cat purr, we're not certain anyone, including Stacey Norman, would be all too happy to have a cat that purred the loudest.

You would think that as South Africans we would appreciate a loud purr because essentially that could be compared to a dog's loud bark, you know, to ward off criminals.

But it's quite the opposite...

A family in the UK thought differently though. They were so impressed by their family cat's loud purr that they even tested it out with a decibel app.

And that all led to their cat, Bella, becoming a world record holder.

"Bella, a 14-year-old feline from Huntingdon, UK, has claimed the Guinness Record for the world’s loudest purr by a domestic cat, with a noisy purr measured at 54.59 decibels." (Oddity Central)

But how loud is 54.59 decibels?

According to decibelpro.com, "55 dB is a level that describes moderate to soft sounds. In fact, it is comparable to a quiet home environment, a residential street, or a normal conversation between two people."

So, we guess that it's actually not that loud but loud for a cat. Seriously, though, we have a world record for a cat's loudest purr...

It feels like if we have a record for something this mediocre, then we need to aim higher in life.

But we guess for the cat community it's a big deal, especially because Bella is a fourteen-year-old cat, and that's a milestone in itself.
