Education Department addresses Grade 1 book drama

After a Grade 1 government-issued book sparked much conversation on social media, Jane managed to get in touch with someone from the Department of Education for some answers.
During this week, I have been featuring the story about a Grade 1 government-issued reading book that has angered moms and many people in South Africa.

On Tuesday, we spoke to Ashmie Balmogim, a Durban mom who was concerned by the messages that she saw in her daughter's reading book. Her chat with me sparked mixed reactions.

I decided that I needed to get some answers. So I did a bit of digging and I managed to get in contact with Sifiso Sibiya, who is Deputy Director Of Learning And Teaching Support Material (LTSM), to get some answers and what his thoughts are on the matter. This is what he had to say:
