Childhood injuries: What crazy story do you have to share?

Face it, we all have a childhood injury story to share. Big or small, Jane has decided to share hers and wants to hear all about yours too.

Listen as KZN listeners share their childhood injury stories on the podcast below:

Growing up I wasn't an accident-prone kid. Scanning my life story, the only time I can think of an accident which put me in the hospital was after I broke my arm.

I was seven, and my mom decided to take my sister, who was two at the time, to the park while my dad was away on business. The day started with a teddy bears' picnic at home (I have the picture to prove it) and then onto the park for a bit of play time.

It was all fun and games until I decided at the height of the slide to let go. Yip, I came slamming down at a speed onto the playground and broke my arm in the process. Ouch!

My poor mother scooped me (a screaming mess at this point) and my tiny sister up and then headed off to the hospital where I had an op and was left with a cast.

It so happened that while my cast was on, I got chicken pox, and can distinctly remember scratching my arm with a knitting needle - talk about childhood memories that will live on forever!

Justin, from our Digital department, shared his story with me. When he was just 2-years-old, he placed his finger in the hinge of a door and it slammed shut. Ouch! He had to undergo a skin graft surgery which meant that he had to have skin removed from his wrist to be placed on the injured finger. It was like a patching process.

"Most of the time I don't notice it, it has become a part of my identity. I have friends and family who were too afraid to ask me what happened," he said.
