Vicki Momberg to be the first jailed in SA for crimen injuria?
Updated | By East Coast Drive
It’s been a dramatic trial. South Africans were watching developments with keen interest and weighed in on social media. Vicky Momberg has changed her legal representatives on numerous occasions. She’s also accused Magistrate Pravina Rugoonandan, Prosecutor Yusuf Baba and some of the probation officers of conspiring against her.
Vicky Momberg was earlier found guilty on four counts crimen injuria. Her racist rant, directed at a black police officer, was caught on camera. Momberg is now waiting to find out exactly how severe her punishment will be.

A precedent-setting decision now lies in the hands of Magistrate Pravina Rugoonandan, which could potentially see the first person in South African history handed a prison sentence for crimen injuria. Prosecutor Yusuf Baba believes Momberg has shown no remorse for her actions, with her behaviour during the trial an example of this.
Is this sort of punishment too much or is it a necessity, especially considering we pride ourselves on 24 years of democracy?
