Whether you're running, walking or doing cardio, the constant rubbing together of parts of your body parts can cause skin irritation. Ouch!

The fabric against your body can cause friction that can weaken, wear away or chafe the skin. This is one of the downsides to running and it is known as chafing.

Creating a barrier by applying Vaseline, Aquaphor, or a lubricating balm before a long hike, run, or other lengthy workouts will help stop friction between thighs, groin, or even your underarms. Power also helps in preventing chafing.

Secondly, wearing a buff helps hold the sweat, therefore reducing the sweat flowing to the rest of your body. Sweat is a huge contributor to chafing. Another thing which can help with the reduction of sweat is the type of clothing you wear. Pay close attention to the fabric of your clothing which can greatly help you to prevent chafing.

Thirdly, body-hugging workout wear made from Lycra or spandex is a great choice because it pulls the sweat away from your skin so you stay dry. Body hugging apparel also feels a lot more comfortable.

Lastly, staying dehydrated helps prevent chafing whereas staying hydrated minimizes the salt concentration in the skin. If you're dehydrated, your body can't sweat out enough water to wash away the tiny salt crystals, so they cling to the surface of the skin and act like sandpaper - which actually worsens irritation.
