Annabelle is missing!… or is she? Here’s the spooky, hilarious truth about the world’s creepiest rag doll
There are many things in this world that keep us up at night: spiders, sharks, clowns, snakes… your bank balance at 2 am.
Then… there’s Annabelle…
The demonic doll that’s been terrorising us in The Conjuring movies and allegedly causing real-life chaos since the 1970s.
Earlier this month, social media was sent into a frenzy with rumors that Annabelle had gone missing.
Now, before you start lighting sage and blocking off your bedroom with a salt circle; let’s get one thing straight first.
Annabelle doesn’t actually look like her Hollywood twin. There’s no porcelain doll glam happening here.
Nope. In real life, she’s just a giant old rag doll that looks like she’d be better suited for a vintage thrift store than a horror franchise.
She’s kinda like a slay queen, but before the late nightclub face beat.
However, that didn’t stop the internet from losing its collective mind.
A handful of TikTokers (some with millions of views) claimed the doll had been stolen, moved, or escaped.
People started posting things like: “Lorraine Warren told you not to move her. Bad things will happen!”
To be fair, if there’s one piece of advice you take from a paranormal investigator, it’s leave the cursed doll alone.
Thankfully, the New England Society for Psychic Research (NESPR) - the guys who look after Annabelle and the rest of the Warren Occult Museum’s creepy collection - swooped in to calm the chaos.
Tony Spera, the Warrens’ son-in-law and NESPR’s current director, confirmed that Annabelle had not gone rogue.
She was never missing. She was simply… on tour.
Yep. Annabelle was doing a mini paranormal roadshow, safely tucked away in her glass case, giving horror fans a peek at the infamous ragdoll of nightmares.
Dan Rivera, NESPR’s lead investigator, even posted a video showing her safe and sound at the shuttered museum.
Spoiler alert: she didn’t look too bothered. Probably still salty about being stuck in a box for decades.

It’s not the first time either…
“Annabelle’s missing!” panic also hit the internet back in 2020.
Similar rumors swirled, and Tony Spera had to hop on YouTube to confirm: “Annabelle did not escape.”
Imagine the relief, and the slight disappointment of paranormal enthusiasts everywhere.
So where is she now?
According to NESPR, Annabelle is still chilling in her case at the Warren Occult Museum.
Although… she’s got upcoming appearances lined up.
Sadly, not in South Africa. The economy is too bad - even for Annabelle. Imagine!
Anyways - it’s okay. You can chill now. The doll that lives in our nightmares is still very much locked up in her case…
