Spinning for Siyabambisana Hermannsburg

Spinning for Siyabambisana Hermannsburg

Colleen Trollip raised R16,730 in cash donations by spinning for seven hours! She sat down with Keri Miller and told her all about the initiative.

The event which took place on Tuesday 16 June, saw Trollip spin for seven hours effortlessly.

"This initiative was basically started to raise money for Siyabambisana Hermannsburg, who decided, when lockdown hit, to help the community of Umhlazana, which is just a stone throw from the hamlet of Hermannsburg in KZN. With the impact of lockdown level 5, a lot of the families lost their source of income. It was this that ignited the creation of Siyabambisana Hermannsburg. The Outreach cooks and supplies meals twice a week and hands out any other items that have been donated," said Trollip.

Trollip adopted spinning before the lockdown when her neighbours moved house and left their spinning machine with her. Using it as form as sanity, she has completed the equivalent of the Amashova.

"I follow the school on social media, as I have a friend who works there, I came to hear about Siyabambisana. The school, Hermannsburg School had their headmaster and one of their teachers do the #coronacut challenge, in which, they both shaved their heads live, on Instagram and Facebook, and through this, raised some money for the cause," she said.

I also wanted to do something to help, and, after one sleepless night, the idea of Spin for Siyabambisana was born.
