Ouch… this Comrades proposal went completely wrong
POV: When your proposal idea sounds romantic in your head but turns into a viral marathon disaster.
The Comrades Marathon, affectionately known as The Ultimate Human Race
By “ultimate,” we obviously mean 90 kilometres of pure madness, where over 22,000 people willingly decide to sprint, hobble, crawl and ugly-cry their way to the finish line in the name of glory, medals, and bragging rights for the rest of the year.
Now, just finishing this thing is a massive flex. Although apparently, for some people, it’s also the perfect time to make life-changing decisions while severely dehydrated and possibly hallucinating.
Case in point: one hopeful chap who decided to pop the big question right at the finish line.

Yup, after running for what must have felt like an eternity, he summoned what little strength he had left, bent the knee (literally), and proposed to his partner.
Sounds romantic, right? Well… hang onto your water bottles because this one took a left turn straight into Awkwardville.
In a video that’s now making the rounds faster than Comrades down-run champion Gerda Steyn, we see the moment the man kneels down to ask his partner the Big Question.
The cameras zoom in, the crowd buzzes, the presenter edges in for that picture-perfect TV moment… and then it all falls apart.
The woman’s face said it all. Not joy. Not shock. Just pure, unfiltered, ‘get me out of here before I pull a hamstring trying to escape’ energy.
She gave him a little tug, clearly trying to yank him away from the cameras, but bless him; the man was committed.
Cue the presenter, desperate to save the moment, leaning in with a hopeful, “Is it a yes?”
Spoiler alert: it wasn’t.

Our leading lady did what any of us would do when confronted with a public proposal we never signed up for.
It was a proposal so awkward, even the camera turned away.
She pushed the mic aside and briskly walked away.
Somewhere around the world, thousands of viewers collectively whispered, “Ouch.”
Look, public proposals are a gamble at the best of times.
Doing it after running 90km, when your beloved is exhausted, sweaty, and probably just dreaming of a hot shower and a double cheeseburger?
Bold move, my guy. Bold move.
