Man awarded $12K after Google Street View captures him naked

Google Street View accidentally captured a naked policeman in his yard, forcing Google to pay him $12,500.

In what might be one of the most bizarre cases of oversharing in digital history, a police officer in Argentina has just won the world’s most unexpected nude photo lawsuit.

Google Street View accidentally captured the officer completely naked in his yard back in 2017.

His private yard, hidden (or so he thought) behind a 6.5-foot wall.

Unfortunately, that wall wasn’t tall enough to shield him from Google’s all-seeing camera van… or the internet’s sense of humor.

What was supposed to be a quiet, private moment turned into international humiliation.

His bare backside, along with his house number and street name, ended up not only on Street View, but also on Argentine television and all over social media.

Basically, the man’s butt went viral before he could say, “Hey, that’s my yard!”

The officer sued Google for damages, arguing that the accidental exposure violated his dignity and caused him emotional distress.

At first, the courts gave him the cold shoulder (and probably a blanket). His claim was tossed out.

He appealed again and the appeals court had his back(side).

Judges ruled that the man’s dignity had been obvi violated, and ordered Google to pay him around $12,500 in Argentine pesos.

Not bad for an unintentional mooning.

This case raises big questions about digital privacy.

If a high wall and a private yard can’t protect you from becoming an online meme, what can?

Sure, we rely on tools like Google Maps every day.

However maybe it’s time we reconsider just how much our streets (and yards… and butts) are being watched.
