Four reasons why Pirates, Chippa swap deal makes no sense

The swap deal sees Chippa United getting four players from Orlando Pirates with two moving in the opposite direction.

Nigerian centre-back James Okwuosa and left-back Marc van Heerden have joined Orlando Pirates.

The duo have left for Pirates as part of a swap deal which sees Justice Chabalala, Donald Mokondelela, Sello Japhta and Nkosinathi Mthiyane move in the opposite direction to the Chilli Boys.

These are reasons why the deal does not make any sense to me:

1. Orlando Pirates don’t have a permanent manager at the moment. If the interim coach signed the players what will happen when the permanent coach arrives and the players don’t suit his tactics.

2. Pirates already have two quality leftbacks, Thabo Matlaba and Patrick Phungwayo. Acquiring the services of Marc van Heerden was unnecessary.

3. The Buccaneers should have kept Justice Chabalala to partner the newly-signed James Okwuosa at centre-back so that Edwin Gymah who’s currently a makeshift defender can go back to his natural central midfield position.

4. Pirates had a chance to sign Okwuosa on a free transfer at the start of the season but they opted not to, now they have to pay for him.
