Farewell, Darren Scott - A radio legend
Updated | By East Coast Radio
The industry has lost a giant. Darren Scott’s voice and spirit will live on forever.

Today, the South African radio industry mourns the loss of one of its most iconic, beloved, and enduring voices.
East Coast Radio joins the nation in paying tribute to Darren Scott - a broadcasting legend, a passionate storyteller, a fierce friend, and a man who, quite simply, was radio personified.
Darren (61) passed away after a brave, unrelenting battle with stage 4 malignant melanoma.
In 2024, he was inducted into the Radio Awards Hall of Fame. A testament to a lifetime dedicated to doing what he loved most.

For over four decades, his voice was a constant companion for millions of listeners across the country.
From the early days at Radio Bop to his unforgettable stints at 5FM, Jacaranda FM, East Coast Radio, and most recently HOT 102.7FM, Darren made every mic his own.
His presence wasn’t just heard, it was felt.
Here at East Coast Radio, Darren remains etched into our story. His time with us may have been part of a much bigger career tapestry, but his impact on our team and our listeners was immense and unforgettable.
Darren Maule, host of East Coast Breakfast, shared these words on his passing:
“Darren Scott wasn’t just an industry colleague, he was a giant of the radio industry and a voice that shaped so many of our radio careers.
His passion for this craft was unquestioned, his razor-sharp humour supreme.
It’s impossible to imagine the world of South African radio without him in it. Rest well Darren.”
As we grieve this devastating loss, we also celebrate the extraordinary life Darren lived and the countless lives he touched.
Our deepest condolences go out to Darren’s wife, family, friends, colleagues at HOT 102.7FM, and every South African who considered him a part of their daily lives.
Rest easy, Darren. Thank you for the memories, the music, the madness, and the magic.
