Darren Maule was amongst royalty at Shaka iLembe’s epic Season 2 premiere!
There were three kings in the house this week at the glitzy royal premiere of Shaka iLembe Season 2, and one of them was our very own King of Breakfast, Darren Maule.
The long-awaited second season of the multi-award-winning drama held its dazzling VVIP premiere at Montecasino, and Darren was front and centre with the hottest ticket in town.

The guest list was pure royalty: Shaka iLembe star Lemogang Tsipa, who portrays the legendary King Shaka, and actual Zulu royalty, King Misuzulu ka Zwelithini himself.
Darren and his wife Anna Banana turned heads on the gold carpet in their stunning African-inspired outfits before getting down to business, capturing the magic of the night for the East Coast Breakfast listeners back home in KZN.
The pair mingled with stars, royalty, and media elites. They even got an exclusive first look at Episode 1, ahead of its official launch this Sunday, 15 June at 8PM on Mzansi Magic (DStv Channel 161).
Sharing his excitement, Darren says: “I’m blown away by the excellence of this world-class production. There’s such pride in seeing South Africa own its stories and tell them our way. The attention to detail is everywhere - in every frame, every note of the score, every costume, every performance. Mediocrity was never an option for this project.”
He’s definitely not wrong. With 12 SAFTA awards under its belt and the title of most-watched MultiChoice series in Africa, Shaka iLembe is setting the standard for African storytelling.
A passion project 12 years in the making and eight years in production, it’s a testament to what happens when talent, tenacity, and a fierce love for culture come together.
