ECR colleagues speak out about their office kitchen pet peeves

"When someone leaves their unwashed dishes on the counter..."

Sharing a kitchen with colleagues is much like living with roommates. It can sometimes leave you feeling frustrated.
Some will leave the kitchen sink full of dirty dishes or spill coffee on the countertops and leave it to dry. The list of offences is endless.
A TikTok video shared by a traffic reporter at a local news studio got us thinking about our own kitchen pet peeves at East Coast Radio. We asked colleagues what their biggest peeves were in the office kitchen.
It was surprising to see how many people were eager to rant about what gets on their nerves when they are using the office kitchen.
Before we get into that, check out the video below, which shows a big office kitchen pet peeve, coffee and tea lumps...Courtesy of TikTok.

Our colleagues were up for a vent; here's what some of them had to say.
- "When you go into the kitchen to make a cup of coffee and the person who used the kettle last didn’t refill and boil it, you gotta do it."
- "I hate dishes in the sink! We have a sign that says “this is a self-cleaning kitchen”, meaning you clean it by yourself. Why are you leaving your crusty, dusty bowls around? Do better."
- "I cannot stand when there’s a sip of milk left in the carton. Use that last bit and toss it. Who is going to use that sliver of milk? Not me."

- "My office kitchen peeve is people leaving the place in a mess. There is a sink but a person will leave their dirty dishes next to it, not inside, next to it. Or leave the milk out to vrot and dirty tissues all over the place. Let's not forget the kettle that is never filled up. Nasty people."
- "People leaving plates in the sink with bits of food still on them. CLEAR YOUR PLATE BEFORE PUTTING IT THERE! Who do you expect to do it?"
- "Leaving dishes unwashed on the counter makes me so angry!"
- "Tea bag in your cup and leaving the tea cup on the office kitchen sink, or leaving food or bones on your plate, or bones on your plate in the sink."
