School removes gender labels from their uniform

Students can decide which components of the uniform they want to wear.

Newtown

Thinking back to my school days, I never really liked my school uniform.

I was dressed in bottle green my whole school career and in high school, my school was extra strict about the length of our dresses, where we wore our belts, and how we wore our hats.

Very often, the idea of “American School” where you didn’t have to wear uniforms, looked more and more glamourous, especially so I could wear pants to school.

Well, a school in Australia has said that pupils are free to wear either the boys uniform or the girls uniform, regardless of their gender.

The students of Newtown High School of the Performing Arts lobbied for this at the school.

The school also permits pupils to refer to themselves as either male or female, for example, those who consider themselves as female are allowed to use female toilets.

Big ups on this school!

Do you think South African schools should look at adopting something similar where schools are more gender neutral?
