Young boys surprise Mom by bringing home a dead bird

Young boy shocks mom by bringing home a dead bird

Tiffani Hein, the founder of the Maletsatsi Foundation, shared how one of the kids living with them brought a dead bird inside.

The saying, 'boys will be boys, ' is common amongst parents raising boys. It is why many parents just let things be when parenting these fearless little humans

Tiffani Hein, the founder of the non-profit organisation (NPO) Maletsatsi Foundation, isn't unfamiliar with the significant differences between raising boys and girls. She often shares sweet moments experienced in their home that remind us that kids will be kids, especially in a home that allows them to feel safe and encourages them to be themselves.

Accoring to their websuite, "The Maletsatsi foundation provides a temporary family for children in transitional spaces. The foundation is primarily a home to abandoned, abused, neglected and other children in need, essentially a ‘stopover’ home during the finalisation of a child’s permanency either through reunification with the child’s family or through adoption."

Hein's video, which she shared on social media, amassed over 4.6 million views. In the video, we see a young boy in the kitchen after playing outside. Hein suspected something because she saw the boys giggling and noticed something bulging from the young man's pocket.

Although she anticipated something cute, she took out her phone to record the moment, but it wasn't what she expected. When she asked the toddler what was in his pocket, he said, "A dead bird."

She wasn't prepared for what came next; as he removes the lifeless bird from his pocket.

Hein shared that, "It is estimated that 3,500 babies are abandoned each year in South Africa. For every baby found alive, it is estimated that two will die."

The statistics and a will to make a difference drive Hein and her family at Maletsatsi to help families on their journeys. "We hope to see a world where women are sufficiently supported that abandonment is eradicated", said Hein.

The video wasn't just relatable for people on social media, and signifies a win for the Maletsatsi Foundation. "It's a really, really happy story actually. He makes my heart really, really delighted because he's just exactly what we want to see happening in the space. A story of a child who can really thrive in the care of multiple adults who have all decided to work together", said Hein.

The Maletsatsi Foundation's work is an ongoing, day-to-day lifestyle that requires them to provide care and support to the children and funding. Tiffani and her husband Richard operate the foundation from their home, which is demarcated to help run a smooth ship based on love, care and safety.

The four areas are:

  • The main family home, which still serves as an incubation space for children in crisis and a home for those children in permanent/long-term care.
  • The nurseries provide physical housing to children in transitional spaces.
  • The Maletsatsi School at Home provides onsite CAPS-aligned education to all children over six, irrespective of their educational status on entry.
  • Granny’s House...because is Granny-ontap not key to a magical childhood?

The Maletsatsi Foundation is a registered Non-Profit Company, Non-Profit Organisation and Public Benefit Organisation with Level 1 B-BBEEE status.

Like any NPO working to help families or people who have been left in traumatising situations, funding is required. You can contribute to the fantastic work they are doing.
