Taking food from an event, socially acceptable or not?

Popular South African content creator, Sed Pillay, shared a video showing his wife take sealed bottles of water from a family function and posed an apt question...

We can't speak for everyone on this one, but a well-known trait of many South Africans is to take home leftover food or drinks that have been paid for at a function.
Usually, the event or function is a wedding, but it stands to reason that any get-together suffices. In this case, popular South African content creator and comedian Sed Pillay shares some habits with which many people can resonate.
He aired how his wife was leaving a family get-together at the popular Durban restaurant, Jaipur Palace.
Pillay happily shares content about the South African Indian community and often pokes fun at some of the distinctive stereotypes. This time, he poked at the fact that his wife, Dhamini, chose to take two sealed bottles of still water home from the family gathering.
Dhamini confidently shared how her family paid for the water, so she saw nothing wrong with taking it home. She added that with the current water woes in KZN, she had an added motivation to do so.
The couple have relocated to the United Kingdom, but still share content when they visit home.
Watch the video from Instagram that got us wondering if this trait is specific to one community or all South Africans.

The idea amused many people, who agreed that she had every right to take the water...
