It's not often that South Africans miss an opportunity to create a comedic moment, so it is unsurprising that this group of schoolboys took full advantage of it.

The group was spotted driving through the streets of Hatfield, Pretoria, in a unique ride that not only made heads turn but also seemed questionable.

Their modified vehicle, which got everyone online talking, was no ordinary car; it was a fully converted Volkswagen Kombi, fitted with toilet seats.

The vehicle, which some people called a 'kaka mobile,' was likely inspired by a 1980s Afrikaans movie set at the Sonop Residence in Pretoria.

The movie, called Kiepie and Kandas, was a classic romantic comedy. In a brief synopsis of the film, Letterboxd website wrote: "After many years, Kandas (Ryno Hattingh) literally runs into his primary school sweetheart, Kiepie (Debbie Labuschagne), on the university campus. Immediately, the spark between them is back! However, Kiepie is engaged to a bright young lawyer (Mieder Olivier), who drags Kandas to court over an accident."

People were inspired by the epic display of humour and shared their positive commentary.

  • "Bad things are happening lol? Got to love this country."
  • "Boys being boys! Love it."
  • "This is the best country in the whole world!"
  • "Comes from an old South African Afrikaans movie, Kiepie & Kandas, which was filmed at Sonop Res in the 80s."
  • "I love being a South African. We are living our lives to the fullest. Those who are worrying about being a South African they’re wasting their lives, emotions and happiness."
  • "You got love South Africa."
