Morongwe and Michelle Mokone, founders of Mo's Crib, share their vision of turning waste into timeless designs with Carol Ofori.

Talk about home design, and most people will tell you to search for the illustrious duo who founded Mo's Crib.
Sisters Morongwe and Michelle Mokone founded Mo's Crib, a South African manufacturing company that makes handmade homeware and decor items from recycled or upcycled materials.
As one of the biggest craft exporting companies in South Africa, supplying countries such as the USA, Canada, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, the Philippines and the UAE, the Mokone sisters base their values in recycling and sustainability, job creation, community upliftment, and nurturing talent through the promise of handmade craftsmanship.
Their tagline, "Transforming waste into timeless design", says it all.
The commitment to uplifting communities by creating meaningful job opportunities is at the heart of Mo's Crib's mission.
They've thought of everything in their mission to empower marginalised groups while being environmentally sound in their approach to sustainable design.
Mo's Crib has built a thriving community of crafters across Africa, with operations based in Pretoria and KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa, as well as in Malawi, Kenya, Tanzania, Ghana, and Rwanda.
Through their efforts, they now collaborate with over 280 artisans, offering stable livelihoods and opportunities for both personal and professional growth.
The team at Mo's Crib also have a stellar wellness initiative for employees that sets the bar for fostering a positive and empowered workplace environment.
Mo's Crib is able to offer above living wages remuneration, monthly access to healthcare professionals, transportation subsidies for up to 50% of employees, free lodging to our PVC artisans who previously had no access to quality accommodation and literacy through our in-house library.- Morongwe and Michelle Mokone
In a world where we find many people fighting to earn a living or be acknowledged by their employers, these two ladies are spearheading the path to holistically approaching business positively.
They're thought leaders in prioritising employee and environmental wellness side by side.
