Whoonga Park crisis
Updated | By Staff Writer
Trending Tonight's Sirshin Moodliar speaks to Samora Chapman, a local journalist and photographer who has been covering the Whoonga Park issue for a year, and witnessed the recent attacks on Whoonga users in Glenwood.

Last night, Sirshin spoke to Samora Chapman, a journalist, photographer and the editor of Mahala magazine about the Whoonga pandemic that is destroying many people in the inner city.
Samora gave insight into the dirty dealings and tragic story behind the Whoonga users, who currently live in the King Dinuzulu Gardens.
He spoke openly about his year-long investigation into Whoonga Park as well as his first hand experience of the recent city street fights in Umbilo and Glenwood.
A mob of around 40 vigilantes - allegedly from Dalton Hostel - set fires to the Whoonga addicts' belongings and chased them out of the area and through the streets of Umbilo and Glenwood on Monday night.
A number of people were badly injured in the attacks, which Samora witnessed.
Samora has described Whoonga Park as a social disaster, and the biggest challenge facing the city of Durban at present.
Take a listen to his discussion with Sirshin below.
