UKZN Marine Biology Fundraiser
Updated | By tanstan fourie

The Marine Biology students from UKZN need your help!
You may remember the well-publicized diving incident a couple of months ago when two research divers lost their lives in a tragic diving accident near Aliwal Shoal.
One of the divers was Peter Timm, citizen scientist and discoverer of the coelacanth’s population at Sodwana Bay.
An ancient rare fish, a living dinosaur!
Peter's contribution to the diving and scientific communities has been invaluable, and establishment of a marine science laboratory at Sodwana Bay to further facilitate scientific discoveries in the area was one of his dream goals.
A laboratory would not only benefit marine science students from various tertiary institutions but aid many other professional scientists conducting research in the area.
The Marine Science students at UKZN are trying to continue the legacy of the late Peter Timm and to fulfil Peter’s dream. Thye are undertaking a fundraising initiative to raise money for the establishment of the Peter Timm Science Lab at Sodwana Bay!
Join them for a fun night out at DUC on Tuesday 23 September (Remember Wednesday is a public holiday!!), to raise funds for this awesome development. There will be good music, good company and lots of cool goodies to be auctioned. Light snacks will be provided and there will be a cash bar.
A small entrance fee of R40 will go towards the donation, and any other donations will be much appreciated.
Bring your friends and family, the more the merrier! It will be a fun night out for a great cause!!
They would greatly appreciate any donations contributing towards the marine science lab, or any gifts that may be auctioned at the event.
This is a really good cause that will greatly benefit the future of marine research in KZN.
