Top achiever comforts failed matrics
Updated | By Staff Writer

Umlazi’s Mathematics star Lwazi Shezi has pleaded with fellow matric pupils who failed or attained poor symbols not to lose hope, saying failure is not the end of the world.
The teenager chatted to Jane Linley-Thomas on East Coast Radio earlier today.
Shezi, of Velabahleke High School in Umlazi, emerged as the top Maths pupil in KwaZulu-Natal.
He attained 10 distinctions and third place nationally for Maths.
He is also one of the top 10 candidates overall in the province.
This is despite the fact that he lived entirely alone for the entire matric year.
His family of six lives in Mthwalume on the south coast of KwaZulu-Natal and relies on a single income.
The 16-year-old has big plans in spite of his circumstances.
He says he will study Actuarial Science at the University of Cape Town this year.
