Priest’s former life as a gay porn star revealed
Updated | By Staff Writer

That’s despite numerous calls for him to step down as the pastor at the House of Prayer Monte Santo in Puerto Rico.
Pastor Jose Santiago, who is now married to a woman, claims that he “gave up being gay" after being called by God seven years ago. But the X-rated movies from his past have now been making their rounds via the internet in Puerto Rico.
Um...excuse me..."Gave up being gay"? He makes it sound as if being gay is something you choose to do - like how you choose which pair of shoes to wear. In the same way that it’s not a choice, it’s also not a disease. So people who go on about how they can "cure" homosexuality make no sense to me.
Homophobia runs so deep in South Africa too. I had a conversation with a few male friends of mine recently and I was shocked at how they were against two males holding hands, or hugging each other, or sleeping in the same bed. They were adamant that it should never, ever happen. But in some African and European countries, kissing a man on the cheek is simply a greeting.
For some reason, as humans we are so fixated on "correcting" what we see as wrong, and wanting to make others just like us that we forget that we are all different and it's our differences that make living life all the more exciting.
As much as I not believe that what this priest is saying, I also don't believe he should resign because he is gay. He should rather resign because he was dishonest to his congregation - and to himself.
I don't believe we should have leaders that 1) aren't comfortable with being themselves and 2) aren't going to encourage those who have discriminatory views to change.
