Pastafarians to protest
Updated | By Rory Petzer
51-year-old Ian Harris is a Pastafarian and member of the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster.
His religious headgear is a colander / pasta strainer, and he is now locked in a struggle with the DVLA over the right to don his religious attire.
Harris is rallying for fellow Pastafarians to take to the streets on Sunday to battle for his "right" to wear the metal bowl in his licence photo.
Harris says donning a colander is no different to Muslim women wearing hijabs, or Jewish men wearing kippahs (skullcaps).
The professional musician says, "No matter how much my religion is a minority religion I have a deeply held belief and I should have an exemption or otherwise there should be no exemption at all. I will be standing proud with my colander and will read from the Pastafarian holy book at the protest."
He is now arranging for Pastafarians wearing colanders and pirate hats to take to Brighton's streets from 2pm on Sunday.
What do you think about Ian's protest to wear his colander?
Does he have a good point regarding freedom of religion and speech OR is he being ridiculous?
