NHI rollout in KZN faces challenges
Updated | By Staff Writer
KwaZulu-Natal Health MEC, Sibongiseni Dhlomo, says National Health Insurance pilot projects rolled out in the province are still facing some challenges.
Dhlomo delivered a progress report on the Newcastle pilot project yesterday. He says a lack of adequately trained GPs is one of the major concerns.
The MEC also attended the graduation yesterday of 238 long-term care givers, who have been trained by the department to be nurses.
Dhlomo says community health care givers will play an important role in the success of the NHI.
"We have trained them to become nurses; every year we have more that are going to be enrolled in doing this programme.
"But we will also open up other categories like nutrition advisors and take them into doing other programs," he said.
