The Load Shedding Song
Updated | By tanstan fourie
You’re cooking and the lights go out. You’re about to dry your hair and darkness.
Load shedding is without a doubt one of the most frustrating problems in SA. It’s hard to see the lighter side when you’re parking in the dark…in winter.
Cue CherryKab. This South African band had a serious lightbulb moment it parodied its hit single “We Got The Power” and changed the title to “No Power.”
Darren and Natarah spoke to Vryheid boy and lead singer of the band Kelvin Alston, who told them how the idea came about.
If you missed No Power on East Coast Breakfast this morning, listen to it here:
Here are the lyrics too. We can all sing together, while we’re waiting for the lights to come back on. LOL!
We've been sitting in the dark
It’s our new way of living
With load shedding everyday
Makes you want to scream
Causing havoc in the traffic
Is a daily existence
A cup of coffee has become
A real luxury
We got no power
We got no power
Bring your candles and your lighters
We’ll cook on the fire
Our streets are lit up with the stars
Our power’s restricted
Turn off your geyser
It’s a crime to get yourself clean
You pay your bills you pay your taxes
No one can resist it
To watch my TV has become
My daily dream
We got no power
We got no power
Bring your candles and your lighters
We’ll cook on the fire
I can’t do anything
Got no electricity
I can’t do anything
Got no electricity
We got no power
We got no power
Bring your candles and your lighters
We’ll cook on the fire
