Fun Facts about Switzerland
Updated | By tanstan fourie

Last week the team was talking about going to Switzerland, and now they are broadcasting live from Zurich every day until Friday!
The team received a Facebook post from Virgil who visited them in Arbon yesterday…
Virgil shared some crazy, zany and bizarre learnings while living in Switzerland - the team dubbed it “The Lighter Side of Virgil’s Culture Shock”
Here are the Top 4 things the Swiss do that we don’t:
1. In Switzerland you can’t buy a pet – you need a license e.g. you need to go for training at a particular school and it’s only when you have been signed off as a credible person then you would be allowed to purchase a pet.
2. If you want to rent a flat or house in Switzerland you will find that there are no light fittings in Switzerland – if you move you move with your light fittings not just the bulb the whole socket and connection. You have to install it yourself! Technically you have to be your own technician when you move to Switzerland
3. Having a car in Switzerland is a luxury! If you have a car in Switzerland then you have to look after it and get it washed often. You can’t just wash your car anywhere in Switzerland, you have to go to a car wash, pay R600 and wash it yourself!
4. Self service check-outs: When you go to a store to buy groceries you are handed a mobile scanner. You are left with the responsibility to walk around scan and pack your groceries in a basket. When you are ready to pay you make your way to the till, your total will be added and then you have to utilize the till yourself. You pay the amount and leave! You do it all – scan, pack and pay (the Swiss expect you to pay the right amount and take the correct change) Pretty amazing!
Do you have some interesting facts to share with the team?
