Durban sandcastle contest
Updated | By Abi Ray

The 4th annual Sandcastle Contest was held at Durban’s New Beach this past Saturday. This year’s contest was held in conjunction with the 25th International Union of Architects World Congress which kept Durban alive all of last week.
According to Gabriella Pappas, one of the organisers, the brief that was given to each sand sculptor was simply, "Build your dream sandcastle; take the idea of the traditional sandcastle and make it your own".
I was asked to be a judge and I tell you, it was not easy at all to pick a winner from those nine sandcastles!
After my fellow judges and I spent some time walking up and down, examining each piece of art, the winner was eventually decided upon! His name is Innocent Zungo and he walked away with R5000!
