Buddha is bigger than King Shaka!
Updated | By Darren Maule
So Durban wants its own mega statue of our mega king, King Shaka, fair enough.
Where does one start when you are about to erect a statue of such a noteworthy subject? Well, one begins by making comparisons to other Statues!
The first that springs to my mind is the "Statue of David", but that just wouldn’t be big enough (Statue of David 5.17 m) for the big wigs who want to commission the Shaka statue!
How about “Christ the Redeemer” 39.6 m? Nope, still not big enough.
How about a nice “The Motherland Calls” which comes in at 91 m and brings with it just the right amount of communist overtones for South Africa?
No? Well then how about a great liberation statue, how fitting for a Newly-ish liberated-ish country… Statue of Liberty 93 m
Nope, still not big enough? We were thinking somewhere in the region of 106m.
Just 106m? Ja, let’s be realistic, King Shaka was big for sure, but he was no Buddha.
