VIDEO: Superb surface fishing
Updated | By Staff Writer
I remember well my excitement as a kid when my bung started popping when a fish was biting on the bait suspended just below it.
I also recall a fishing buddy catching a lovely queenfish off Durban using top bung with a live bait.
Balloons too produced success when floated off either boat or pier. Somehow we often saw shark action when using this method.
More active fishing involves the casting and retrieving of surface lures and poppers.
We recently shared footage of the FreeSpool team catching GT on poppers off Sodwana.
I suspect trolling live bait will prove the preferred method at the Imperial Nissan Zululand Couta Classic off Mtunzini next month.
I will be fishing in this competition. The heaviest couta will earn the angler involved R30 000.
Today, however, we go to the USA for some truly dramatic top water action.
