VIDEO: Shad fishing frenzy
Updated | By Staff Writer

My experience suggests that early December is an excellent time to catch a really big shad.
These tend not to be as numerous as those landed earlier in the season, but their size make them well worth the weight..er..wait.
I have fond memories of catching shad around the 4kg mark on the Bluff beaches in the first two weeks of December.
I have not done so for a while, but am hoping to boat either a dorado or a tuna off Durban this coming Saturday.
I have managed to land a spot on a jetski for the Durban Ski Boat Club Jetski Bonanza this weekend.
The winner of this fishing competition will bag a new jetski and trailer.
I will be taking a GoPro with me and am determined to have some awesome fishing footage for you - if the weather allows it.
Let me in the meanwhile remind you of just how much fun shad fishing can be in the open season.
