Garrick is a target species for many KwaZulu-Natal anglers during the winter months.

These fish can weigh up to almost 20 kilograms and are known to favour live shad baits.

I have also heard of garrick caught on lures, live karanteen and live mullet.

Garrick are sometimes caught in Durban harbour.

They tend not to swallow baits straight away and inexperienced anglers are often tricked into striking too early.

Garrick are found in many estuaries, especially in the Eastern and Southern Cape.

Knysna Lagoon is also famous for its garrick fishing.

The footage below was shot on the Swartkops River in the Eastern Cape.
