The prodigal son or cobia grows up to 2 metres in length.

This fish feeds primarily on squid, crab and other fish.

Prodigal son are also known to follow sharks, turtles and rays. The are both hunters and scavengers.

It is believed prodigal son can weigh up to about 68kgs.

I have seen these caught off North Pier in Durban and once saw one of 34kgs shot by a diver off the Bluff in Durban.

Prodigal son grow quickly and their meat is considered high quality.
