VIDEO: Fishing in alligator country
I remember fishing in the company of crocodiles up at St Lucia on several occasions.
I also recall being splashed by a hippo while fishing in the St Lucia estuary.
The spot in northern KZN is one of my favourites, but fishing in the estuary has taken a big knock with the link to the ocean broken for many years.
I recall catching loads of grunter and perch in the estuary, with one eye always open for the resident crocs, hippos and the odd snake crossing the water.
It sure was and still is a spot that requires an angler to be vigilant.
Today we take you to another fishing venue where it is wise to concentrate on what is happening around you.
The angler is targeting alligator gar in waters also frequented by alligators.
