VIDEO: Couta on light tackle

I hoped to catch one at both the Imperial Nissan Zululand Couta Classic and Quattro King of the Sea this season.

However, I draw blanks both times and my biggest fish was a bonito of 4kg caught at Quattro on the KZN south coast last month.

I was briefly excited when a bait drifted fairly deep was taken during Quattro, but I ended up catching a large rockod and not the targeted couta off Shelly Beach.

A couta of 27.5kg ended up winning Quattro and one of around 33kg claimed the title at the Zululand contest in April.

So there are some big ones out there off KZN and you may recall former Springbok rugby player, Andre Joubert, catching two big couta just a few weeks back.

I guess I will have to be patient and hope for better when next I get to chase couta.

These fish are called kingfish in the USA and today we go there to check out another fine bit of fishing action starring Captain Blair Wiggins.
