The reel screamed and Bloem was quick to pounce on it - having given to earlier strikes to Drive teammate Alain Tardin.
Tardin lost the first fish, but then landed what later proved the winning dorado.
Bloem was keen to put matters beyond doubt and fought his catch for around 5 minutes.
It fought deep and the Natal Power Boats crew and Tardin assured him that yellowfin tuna fight in such a fashion.
Our video footage below shows they were conning the ECR Head of Sport.
The GoFish Magazine and Nikao Fishing Adventures team played a similar trick on Mak Dlamini and Darren Maule.
They ended up catching a large plastic bag.
