Van Wyk pleased with Dolphins mix

Following their two wins in the Ram Slam T20 tournament, Sunfoil Dolphins skipper Morne van Wyk is happy with the mix in the team.

The Dolphins clinched a tight one-run victory over the Golden Lions on Wednesday thanks to an outstanding century from former England international Kevin Pietersen.

A strong Lions batting made the Dolphins bowlers work hard for the win but Van Wyk said the victory was setup by Pietersen's powerful innings.

“We were a little bit behind it from the onset losing Cameron (Delport) on the first ball and that little collapse in the middle order. Then up steps Kevin Pietersen, the big man just played a vintage knock. It was a great game of cricket and I feel privileged to have been a part of it and also to see that knock of his, he’s arrived and you can say with the help of our bowling unit he probably won that game for us,” the captain said.

“I’m very proud of the calmness and maturity we showed, the willingness of everybody to put their bodies on the line. We can take a lot from this but winning by one run is always a bit nerve-racking.”

Going into tonight’s clash with the Knights, the Dolphins are top of the Ram Slam log with 8 points. Their spot on top has Van Wyk beaming after the opening two matches.

“Can you ask for a better start than this? Well it’s nice to see the points on the board and we’d like to keep that going and obviously as long as KP is here we’d like to wish he’ll stay in that kind of form,” Van Wyk said.

“We all know we can improve in different areas, it was by no means a perfect game. All in all I think the Lions played better than us but that’s the nature of T20 cricket – one guy can win it for you as KP did in a batting way and the bowling unit stepped up which was very pleasing tonight – 2nd game in a row which is a good sign.”

The Dolphins face the Knights at 6pm tonight (6 November 2015).
