Six players re-commit to the Sharks

The Cell C Sharks have been bolstered by the re-signing of six young stars who have committed their future to the franchise including their most recent Springbok Jaden Hendrikse.

Hendrikse scored a try on his Springbok debut against Argentina but was injured in his second test match against the same opposition but is on his way back to full fitness and has committed his next four years of professional rugby to the Durban side.

Amongst the players who have re-signed until 2024 are utility back Werner Kok, up-and-coming prop forward Ntuthuko Mchunu and talented hooker Kerron van Vuuren.

Kok, who impressed in the two matches against the British and Irish Lions earlier in the year, has become a regular in the Sharks match-day squad and will continue to provide full commitment to the franchise.

Mchunu burst on the scene with a scintillating try from midfield in the Preparation Series match against the Lions in March and has grown into a strong scrummager under the tutelage of Georgian scrum guru Akvsenti Giorgadze.

Van Vuuren has become an important member of the front row club at the Sharks and is a player that continues to grow and the Sharks will be happy to have him at Kings Park for the foreseeable future.

The shorter term re-signings are loose forward Jeandre Labuschagne, who has had few opportunities in the first team but impressed against the Bulls recently while fly-half Jordan Chait has added another year to his contract.

The Sharks will be counting on their depth in the new year as they will be competing in two competitions with the United Rugby Championship and the Currie Cup happening concurrently.

The Currie Cup campaign begins on the 19th of January when the Sharks host Griquas.
