Sharks pack looking to build on momentum

Despite having arguably the most dangerous backline in the Vodacom United Rugby Championship, the Cell C Sharks forwards are hoping to continue their upward trajectory when they face the DHL Stormers at Hollywoodbets Kings Park this weekend.

The Sharks put in a strong performance against the Lions in Johannesburg last weekend to claim their third won of their URC campaign which was built predominantly around a strong display from the forwards.

Sharks and Springbok prop Ox Nche believes there are several factors that have contributed to their good form from the weekend.

“We’ve got a good system in place now and it has worked well through our coaches, and we have just grown from there,” Nche said.

“He (Akvesenti Giorgadze) has a process where you work as a pack and it’s an all eight effort and you work on a number of things, your shape and technique and he also brings confidence to the pack.

“He expects forwards to be forwards and we have a good relationship with him, and he tried to bring the best out of each and every single player.”

Coming up against the Lions who have a strong record at scrum-time in the competition, the Sharks conceded two penalties and won two penalties which Nche was happy about.

“It was only our first game back so to have only given away two penalties when they average around four or five a match was good.

“I think that we will only get better from here, so we are confident going into this weekend,” Nche added.

The Stormers beat the Bulls at Loftus Versveld over the weekend which put them firmly on the radar of the other teams in the URC and Nche knows that they will provide the Sharks with a strong test in Durban this weekend.

“They are going to be on a high after winning at Loftus and we know that it’s going to be a good challenge for us.

“They going to come here with a lot of confidence, and we just have to man up and be at our best this weekend,” he commented.
