Run Durban winter with the Sunrise Run
Updated | By Nick Tatham
As the new running season kicks into gear following the 2025
Comrades Marathon, the Durban Sunrise Run is the next exciting chapter of the
flourishing Durban running scene.

17 August will see runners of all abilities take on what is a fast, flat course at the Durban Sunrise Run which offers runners a 10km option and a 21km option.
Starting at the famous Suncoast Casino and Entertainment World both the 21km and 10km options will give runners the ideal running conditions on the famous Durban Golden Mile as they enjoy the best of Durban’s winter sunshine.
The 21km route will take runners from the promenade, over the uMngeni River and into the heart of Durban North. Athletes will run through the residential area before heading past Crusaders Club and crossing the M4 at Hinton Place and then running along Fairway before heading back across the M4.
From there runners run parallel to the M4 along Mildene Place which becomes Holmpark and then Waterkant.
Runners then head back along the promenade before heading back under the M4 towards the Moses Mabhida Stadium and turn left onto Masabalala Yengwa road.
There is a turn down the road for runners who will then head back to the promenade to finish at Suncoast.
“We’ve tried to make the Durban Sunrise Run something a little different,” event organiser Damian Bradley said.
“There are races that incorporate the M4 and the promenade, but we feel that by taking runners into the streets of Durban North it offers them something different to what they might have experienced before.
“This also gives the local community a good opportunity to come out and support the runners as they run past their houses, so we are very excited about the route we have planned for the 21km.”
The 10km route will be a more promenade focused run with runners heading north towards Blue Lagoon along the promenade. They turn under the M4 and run a loop where they rejoin Lagoon Drive heading back towards the promenade under the M4.
Runners then head back south along the promenade before heading under the M4 again at the Moses Mabhida Stadium before completing the same loop that the 21.1km runners will do.
They then return under the M4 and finish at the Sundeck at Suncoast.
“The Durban Sunrise Run is a fantastic morning out for serious runners and those that just want to stay active,” Bradley added.
“Durban in winter is the best place to be and the best place to stay fit and healthy. We feel that it’s the perfect opportunity to tackle your first half marathon, try get your fastest 10km time or just enjoy a morning out in a fantastic city.”
