Rooney wants out - Ferguson

Manchester United manager, Alex Ferguson, has confirmed that Wayne Rooney wants to leave the club.

Manchester United manager, Alex Ferguson, has confirmed that Wayne Rooney wants to leave the club.

Ferguson admitted to the transfer request after the Red Devils beat Swansea 2-1 at Old Trafford.

Rooney did not feature in the game last night.

Rio Ferdinand and Javier Hernandez scored for the hosts.

David Moyes also won at home on Sunday.

Moyes, who will succeed Ferguson at Manchester United, guided Everton to a 2-0 success over West Ham United.

Kevin Mirallas scored both goals at Goodison Park.

Steven Pienaar started for the Toffees.

Norwich City and Newcastle United have both taken big steps in their respective bids to avoid relegation.

The Canaries drilled West Bromwich Albion 4-0 at Carrow Road, while the Magpies beat Queens Park Rangers 2-1 at Loftus Road.

Sunderland, however, had to settle for a point yesterday.

The Black Cats drew 1-1 with Southampton at the Stadium of Light.

Sunderland remain 17th in the standings.

Norwich are now 12th and Newcastle 13th.

They are both above Fulham, Southampton and Aston Villa.

Wigan Athletic, who are in the third and final relegation spot, will face Arsenal in London tomorrow.

Meanwhile, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur both managed victories away from home yesterday.

Emanuel Adebayor scored the winner for Spurs in a 2-1 victory at Stoke City.

Daniel Sturridge netted all three Liverpool goals.

The Reds won 3-1 at Fulham.

Dimitar Berbatov scored for the hosts at Craven Cottage.

Spurs are fourth in the standings and Liverpool seventh.
