Plenty kob at Umkomaas

Plenty kob at Umkomaas

We have received reports of kob action at Umkomaas and of big shad caught at Port Edward over the past week.

Toti and Warner Beach have had a fair amount of shad action. A few garrick came out on live mullet and shad during the week.

Umkomaas river mouth has produced good numbers of smaller kob over the last week and along with the kob have been the snapper salmon which seem to be making another appearance.  These fish are taking small chokka and red-eye baits. Many anglers have caught a few grunter and the odd flatfish in the right weather conditions.

Scottburgh Point saw the odd blue ray off the point and quite a number of grey sharks which have been caught on shad cutlet baits and mackerel head.

Port Shepstone has seen an abundance of shad, bronze bream and kob from the rocks, along with a number of garrick around as well.  Excellent catches of raggies and grey sharks have also been reported.

Along with plenty of bronze bream that have been landed along the Trafalgar stretch, the blue rays have been wild and most anglers to spend time in the area have landed a fair amount. There have been good reports of brusher from this area too.

We would like to welcome Craig Pretorius to the lower south coast. He has taken over Tacklenet (the fishing tackle shop in Port Edward) from Terry Nel. Thanks to Terry for all the fishing reports  over the last number of years. With the sea and weather conditions less than favourable fishing has been exceptional in this area. Plenty of shad have been coming out at all the spots with Splash Rock and Lucky Dip producing some fine specimens of around the 3kg mark. Kob and garrick have also been landed. With the days getting warmer the rivers are starting to produce, catches of sea pike, perch and rock salmon have been reported in the Umtamvuna River. If you are going to visit the lower south coast and would like a bit more info about what’s been caught, give Craig a call on 039 311 3013.
