The Argentine has been in sublime form this season. Aguero is currently the joint leading goalscorer alongside Tottenham Hotspur's Harry Kane and Chelsea's Diego Costa who both got the nod, with all finding the back of the net on 19 occasions.

Aguero has been impressive for City who are currently fourth on the log. Whenever he is out due to injuries, his absence is easily noticed.

City have a date with West Ham United in the league on Sunday.

Chelsea and Manchester United will clash at Stamford Bridge in Premiership action tomorrow.

Here are the six nominees:

Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane (England)

Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea (Spain)

Liverpool playmaker Philippe Coutinho (Brazil)

Arsenal striker Alexis Sanchezz (Chile)

Chelsea striker Diego Costa (Spain)

Chelsea midfielder Eden Hazard (Belgium)

Coutinho, De Gea, Hazard and Kane are also on the shortlist for the Young Player of the Year award, where they are joined by Chelsea goalkeeper, Thibaut Courtois, and Liverpool forward Raheem Sterling.

Hazard is the only nominee from last season to make the shortlist for the senior award, which was won by Luis Suarez when the now Barcelona striker was starring for Liverpool, while the Chelsea midfielder won the youth award.

The nominees were voted for by players from 100 clubs involving the Premier League, the three divisions of the Football League and the the Women's Super League.
