OPINION - Well done Muhsin Ertugral

It takes a very strong man to accept he is no longer in control of a situation and walk away and I believe Muhsin Ertugral has just done that. Muhsin's decision to sack himself on live TV is no surprise. After all he named himself as new Bucs coach in an interview before the club could do so.

Muhsin Ertugral
In light of Orlando Pirates suffering their biggest defeat in 26 years to hands of Supersport United coach Muhsin Ertugral vowed he will render his resignation to the chairman of the club.

Pirates have had an 'ok' start to the season but many expected fireworks from the team from Orlando but they have failed to live up to expectations.

Currently seventh on the Premiership log with one loss, two wins and four draws, fans had started to worry about the state of the team especially with rivals like Bidvest Wits, Kaizer Chiefs and Supersport United looking good and further up the table.

The biggest question from the outside was if there is chemistry between coach and players or is this a sinking relationship?

Ertugral is known as a hard man when it comes to player management and enforcing his playing philosophy and signs of sour air in the team started to show.

The other question was - had Mushin lost the changeroom already?

A 6-1 defeat to Supersport proved the answer to that question to be yes he had.

A team fights for their coach when they know results are against them, but what I saw from Pirates was a bunch of players who didn't care about the coach and a slight hint of sabotage.

Mushin accepted the situation and to save his dignity he decided he had to be the bigger man and throw in the towel before things got nasty.

I say kudos to him.

For any coach to make such a decision he has to be praised, because despite the result he is a brilliant coach and deserves more than what he was getting.

My question is why don't we have more coaches like Etrugral?

Coaches who put pride and egos aside and accept situations and do what's best for them and the club.

I never understand how coaches wait to be fired and torn apart by fans and media before realizing its too late.

Examples are coaches like David Moyes at Sunderland who hasn't won a game this season but remains coach - where does he draw the line?

Frank De Boer got fired this week at Inter Milan and was in the same position as Mushin was.

Some would argue Shakes Mashaba should do the same thing at Bafana...
