Nkondi crowned Hilton champion
Updated | By Staff Writer

The Boxer athlete pulled well clear of his closest rival, Malibongwe Dlamini, as they covered the 16km of hilly but scenic tracks through the Mondi Forests outside Hilton.
Nkondi had over a kilometre in hand when he crossed the finish in 54 minutes and four seconds. Dlamini of the local Collegian Harriers club was runner-up in 57 minutes 07 seconds, while Lucky Mdladla of Durban’s Queensburgh Harriers completed the podium.
Former Comrades Marathon winner, Shaun Meiklejohn, won the 50-59 age category in one hour six minutes and 40 seconds.
Cary-Ann Smith led the ladies across the line in one hour ten minutes and one second, leaving Savages Makosi Mhlongo 400 metres adrift and Janene Carey to finish third overall and be the first 40-49 age grouper home.
The race, which was run for the 36th year, attracted a large number of runners - many of whom have commenced their preparations for this year’s Two Oceans and Comrades.
