Maritzburg cycling road closures

The 2015 UCI Para-Cycling Road World Cup takes place from Friday 11 to Sunday 13 September.

There will be no traffic disruptions on Friday as the time trial takes place within the Midmar Dam complex, but Saturday and Sunday the road races take place in Pietermaritzburg.

Route:

The event is a lap course of 6km with its start/finish point being in Park Drive outside The Oval Cricket Stadium. Participants race on Park Drive towards College Road (with the flow) turn left into College Road, (with the flow) turn right into Topham Road (with the flow) left into French Road (with the flow), left into Alexandra Road (with the flow), left into Alan Paton Avenue (with the flow / left lane only), left into Park Drive (the whole road).

The Route involves a full road closure using speed fencing.

College Road, Topham Road, French Road, Alexandra Road and Alan Paton Avenue between Alexandra Road and Park Drive will be fenced off in the middle - half for cyclists and half for vehicles.

Traffic on Alexandra Road will use west bound lane (two-way traffic) - Heavy Motor Vehicles will be diverted into Ritchie Road.

Traffic on College Road will only be allowed to travel into C.B.D. - Traffic travelling out of C.B.D. will be diverted into Prince Alfred Street towards Camps Drift Road.

Traffic on Topham Road will only be allowed to travel towards College Road.

Traffic on French Road will only be allowed from Alexandra Road towards Makro. Traffic on Camps Drift Road between Topham and Pentrich Road will operate on a stop/go system with traffic travelling from Makro being diverted into Pentrich Road.
