KZN Volleyball set to host prestigious VSA Champions Cup

Volleyball South Africa’s premier club competition, the Champions Cup will be staged in KwaZulu-Natal next week.

The tournament will see the top 16 men’s and 10 of the best female clubs from around the country converge on the province. 

 Hosted in partnership with KwaZulu-Natal Volleyball, the province has a long history with the tournament having staged it successfully over a number of occasions over the past two decades.  

“We are extremely proud to be hosting the 2022 Champions Cup in partnership with Volleyball South Africa,” KZN Volleyball president Aadil Khan said.  

Staged from 9 to 13 May, the tournament is supported by iHealth, eThekwini Municipality as well as the KZN Sports Confederation. 

“It is show of faith from the national body. KZN has a proud history of hosting events, having hosted a number of major tournaments over the years,” he said. 

The competition will take place across two venues with the UZKN Howard College Campus Sports Hall as well as the Tongaat Indoor Sports Hall set to come alive.  

“These are two high quality venues which creates the platform for the players to play their best volleyball. It also provides comfortable seating for spectators throughout the week,” Khan added. 

The competition carries a prize pool of R35 000 thanks to the support of Durban based business iHealth.

Winners in the men’s and women’s categories are set to walk away with R10 000. 

“A massive thank you to our sponsors who have helped make this tournament happen. The founder of iHealth Dr. Suvarna Buldeo has been incredibly supportive of the sport in the province,” Khan said.

“Equal prize money between men and women is important for the sport for the growth of the sport. All our systems are in place, the platform for our athletes has been laid,” Khan concluded.
