The KwaZulu-Natal Cricket Union has been crowned as the number one affiliate according to Cricket South Africa’s Operational model. Six years ago CSA implemented an operational model which intended to guide CSA, its affiliates, associates, franchises and stadiums on how to best apply and allocate its resources to deliver on its strategies in a sustainable manner.

The CSA Incentive Scorecard is based on a combination of Cricket Services, Finance & Admin and Governance.

For purposes of the scorecard KZN Coastal and KZN Inland’s activities over the 11 districts of the KZN Province are combined.

“This is a big feather in our cap, and reward for all the hard work that has been done, on the field and behind the scenes,” said KZN Cricket Union President Ben Dladla .

“From a position of success we can refocus on what more has to be done to make sure that cricket and our province is best served by our efforts. In these hard times we could be dragged into negativity. KZN Cricket will not do that, and instead we will work hard at any initiative that takes our sport and our province to a better place,” he added.

The union scored well in all of the sections that were under review and finished with an overall score of 83.49 which saw them place first ahead of Boland in second, Northerns in third and South Western Districts in fourth.

KZN Cricket also finished top in the Youth Cricket category, while they shared first place in the Governance, Strategic Focus and Finance and Administration categories.

This result follows two seasons of improved performances. In 2018 KZN finished in third place overall, was announced the most improved union, and won the Governance, Youth Cricket and RPC/Hubs categories. In 2019 the union consolidated the improved performances by another overall third place, and winning the Governance and Strategic Focus categories.

“It has always been our ultimate goal to become the number one cricket affiliate in South Africa. I attribute this recognition to my incredible management team, all the staff and their families and support structures, for their relentless efforts and daily commitment to excellence over the last three years," Strydom said.

"Our President, Mr Ben Dladla, has played a huge role in guiding the union. We have achieved 100 percent for Governance three years in a row which is testimony to the important contribution made by our Governing structures.

“The fact that we have won ten incentive categories over this period speaks volumes of a monumental team effort by the whole KZN cricket family. I must commend all those administrators, coaches, umpires, scorers, ground staff and other volunteers throughout our district, club, school and development systems for their continued efforts and commitment to the development of cricket, as well as the support we receive from CSA and our family of sponsors and partners throughout our diverse business.”

“The pandemic has brought much uncertainty for the 2020/21 financial year and will challenge all of us to renew our thinking and ways of conducting our business. It has forced us to also take a good hard look at ourselves, our communities and our province and recommit to making sure that, as a union, we do everything we can to steer this region and our sport into a better place."
