Kearsney enjoyed a successful day against DHS winning all the matches which were played, including the 1st XI game with an emphatic win on the Smith Oval.

DHS won the toss and elected to bat first on a perfect day for cricket.

A tremendous spell of off-spin bowling from Keean Rencken, who took 6 for 18 runs, saw Kearsney restricting DHS to 149 all out.

Kearsney then went in to bat.  An aggressive 54 runs off 45 balls from James Tedder and a classy 41 not out by Brad Porteous saw Kearsney take a seven wicket victory.

Provincial Cricket selections

Following the final round of cricket trials that were held over the weekend, the following Kearsney boys were selected for various KZN Coastal A Teams:

U19A James Tedder, Keean Rencken

U17A Luke de Vlieg, James Stamatis, Matthew Lees, Brad Porteous

U15A Robert Koenig

Baskeball

Kearsney 1st team lost to DHS 47-77

Kearsney hosted DHS in the weekend’s basketball fixture, showing how far the Kearsney basketball programme has come during the last few years.  Kearsney was able to win all of the age group games except for the 1st team game.  DHS dominated the game from the start, with Kearsney struggling to contain this talented team.

DHS shot the ball well from behind the three point arc, making seven shots count and putting the game beyond reach of the Kearsney team by half time.

Kearsney played better in the second half but the damage had already been done and they were unable to limit their opponents scoring.   They will have to work on their defensive intensity if they hope to live up to their potential.

Kearsney’s Thomas Westermeyer played an outstanding game, not allowing himself to be intimidated.  He scored 23 points against his much fancied opponents.

Water Polo
