Jordy out of world title race

Jordy Smith has lost his quarter-final heat at the Rip Curl Pro Portugal.

Nat Young beat the Durban surfer at Peniche this afternoon.
The loss means Smith can no longer win the 2013 world championship.
Young has been named rookie-of-the-year.
World championship leader, Mick Fanning, was also ousted in the quarter-finals today.
Fanning was eliminated by Kai Otton.
Joel Parkinson defeated Julian Wilson in his quarter-final heat.
