Jake White has quit as Cell C Sharks Director of Rugby.

A statement from the Sharks today claims White wants to move back to Cape Town to be closer to his family.

The statement also says that White wants to free himself up for potential international coaching or consulting opportunities ahead of the Rugby World Cup next year.

White guided the Sharks to the Vodacom SupeRugby semi-finals earlier this year.

He joined the Sharks as Director of Rugby in 2013 and agreed to a three-year contract.

The Sharks CEO, John Smit, was quoted as saying: “Jake and I have known each other a long time and were very frank in our discussions regarding this Sharks opportunity back in 2013, Jake was excited to implement change as well as be involved with South Africa’s most talented squad but from the outset stated his ambition to be on the international stage again and I was all too happy to have him for however long we could. What he has achieved for us in such a short time is incredible and our staff and players have learned a huge amount.”

The Sharks have an Absa Currie Cup date with the Xerox Lions in Durban this coming Friday night.

Kickoff at Growthpoint Kings Park is at 19h10.

Who should the Sharks target as coach for the Vodacom SupeRugby competition next year? I wonder if they have given Brendan Venter a call or if they will back Brad MacLeod-Henderson for the job...

I have seen a tweet or two suggesting John Mitchell. Let us have your thoughts on the issue.
